Change Healthcare Update

Posted in Press Releases

To our patients,

You may have noticed that there has been increased news coverage of the February cyberattack on Change Healthcare (CHC). This is because CHC is close to completing their data review and is preparing to send notifications to customers affected by the breach.

We recently received the great news that to date, there is no indication that any of our patients’ protected health information has been compromised. This could change as CHC finalizes their review, but we are cautiously optimistic.

CHC plans to begin notifying affected individuals in late July. To help with any inquiries you may have in the meantime, here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions:

What types of data were affected by the breach?

CHC can’t confirm specific data for each individual, but potentially affected information includes contact details, health insurance information, medical records, billing details and other personal information such as social security or driver’s license numbers.

How and when will individuals be notified if their data has been comprised?

CHC plans to send written letters directly to affected individuals once the data review is complete (tentatively late July).

What steps can patients take to protect themselves?

CHC is advising people to monitor statements from their healthcare providers, banks, and credit card companies, as well as credit reports and tax returns for unusual activity. Any suspicious healthcare services should be reported to their health plan and/or provider, and suspicious financial activity should be reported to the appropriate financial institution. If an individual believes they’re a victim of a crime, they should contact local law enforcement and file a police report.

What kind of support is CHC offering?

CHC has a dedicated call center (866-262-5342) to help with setting up credit monitoring, identity theft protection, and providing emotional support. More resources and answers to common questions are available at changecybersupport.com

We will continue to monitor this situation and share information if anything changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
