Position Overview
At Oregon Specialty Group, we take care of people. The Medical Assistant Team is crucial to this mission because we are the first to greet our patients and help them feel comfortable. We do this by gathering critical information to assist our providers with an informed and efficient visit. We are an important connector between our patients and providers relaying information, answering questions as well as assisting with prescriptions and referrals.
The Medical Assistant is key to department success because these front-line team members create efficient flow and a welcoming atmosphere for our patients on a daily basis. This position is responsible for administrative and clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, and assisting Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers with exams and bone marrow biopsies. Daily schedule management and timely documentation within the electronic health record creates smooth patient flow for the provider. Medical Assistants use critical thinking and problem-solving strategies to assure timely, professional, and compassionate care.
Essential Job Functions
- Record patient’s medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examination, keeping the rooms neat, clean and stocked.
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight and height.
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the Physician.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by the Physician.
- Give medically appropriate instructions to patients under the direction of a Physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
- Ensure all related patient information is in electronic record prior to appointment.
- Prepare FMLA, prior authorizations and disability paperwork.
- Collaborate and work closely with other medical assistants and ancillary staff.
- Contribute to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers by following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Assist during procedures.
- Schedule new and follow up appointments.
- Reports to the Clinic Manager.
- Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- Two years of MA experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant certificate
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments
- Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual-Spanish
- Oncology or outpatient clinic experience ideal
