The Medical Assistant is key to department success because these front-line team members create efficient flow and a welcoming atmosphere for our patients on a daily basis. This position is responsible for providing professional care for clinic patients under the supervision of the daily physician or advanced practice provider(s). They will report directly to the clinic manager. This person will facilitate daily schedule management including rooming patients and completing accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record. The position will function primarily as the patient flow facilitator for the provider(s) using critical thinking and problem-solving strategies in addition to schedule management. The MAs use critical thinking and problem-solving strategies to assure timely, professional, and compassionate care. The MA plays an essential role in enhancing the patient experience and supporting the medical team in delivering high quality healthcare. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position. The hours are Monday-Friday 8:30-5pm.
Essential Job Functions
- Records patient’s medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
- Prepares treatment rooms for patient examination, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
- Interviews patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight and height.
- Shows patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
- Prepares and administers medications as directed by the physician.
- Gives medically appropriate instructions to patients under the direction of a Physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
- Assist providers in refilling prescriptions.
- Answers phones to addresses patient inquiries and relays messages to the Physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
- Ensures all related patient information is in electronic record prior to appointment.
- Prepares FMLA, prior authorizations and disability paperwork.
- Collaborates and works closely with other medical assistants and ancillary staff.
- Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers by following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor.
- Assists during procedures.
- Schedules follow up appointments.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant certificate.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software.
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
- Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
- Ability to maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor in high-stress situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant certificate.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software.
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
- Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
