We’re hiring a Clinical Oncology Pharmacist to join our expert, compassionate team at Oregon Oncology Specialists. In this critical role, you’ll ensure the safe and effective use of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and supportive care medications in a patient-centered, community-based infusion setting. This is a full-time position. The hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30-4:00pm with a thirty minute lunch. 

The Clinical Oncology Pharmacist will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to manage the preparation, verification, and dispensation of antineoplastic and supportive medications. This position requires a strong foundation in oncology pharmacotherapy, a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance, and the ability to educate both staff and patients on medication-related issues. The pharmacist also supports inventory management, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives within the infusion center. 

Clinical Responsibilities 

  • Review and verify chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment orders for accuracy, appropriateness, and compliance with evidence-based protocols. 
  • Collaborate with the clinical team in the development and implementation of drug-specific protocols to ensure safe, effective, and standardized medication use. 
  • Provide drug information and clinical support to oncologists and nursing staff regarding oncology medications and regimens. 
  • Implement and promote dose rounding protocols, in alignment with institutional policies and payer guidelines, to reduce drug waste and improve operational efficiency without compromising clinical efficacy. 
  • Advocate for and oversee the safe and effective use of biosimilars, including formulary implementation, staff education, and transition planning from reference products to biosimilar alternatives when clinically appropriate. 
  • Assess potential drug interactions, contraindications, and patient-specific variables including renal/hepatic function, lab values, and performance status. 
  • Monitor patient responses to therapy and collaborate with the clinical team to adjust treatment as necessary. 
  • Provide ongoing clinical consultation regarding antineoplastic agents, adverse event management, and supportive care. 

Dispensing and Compounding 

  • Oversee aseptic preparation of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and adjunctive medications in compliance with USP <797>/<800> and hazardous drug handling protocols. 
  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and transport of hazardous and non-hazardous medications and maintain quality assurance logs. 
  • Ensure safe and efficient compounding and delivery, including correct labeling, documentation, and double-check systems utilizing Pharmacy Keeper and EHR platform. 
  • Oversee compounding procedures, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. 

Patient Education and Support 

  • Provide counseling and education to patients and caregivers regarding medication use, potential side effects, and adherence strategies. 
  • Offer support in managing adverse effects and optimizing supportive care regimens (e.g., antiemetics, growth factors, pain management). 

Regulatory and Quality Assurance 

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (e.g., Board of Pharmacy, USP, OSHA, DEA). 
  • Lead or participate in medication safety and quality improvement initiatives within the infusion center. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of oncology drug development and guidelines (e.g., NCCN), biosimilar launches, safety alerts, and treatment protocols. 

Inventory and Operations Management 

  • Manage inventory of chemotherapy and supportive medications to ensure availability and minimize waste. 
  • Evaluate and implement biosimilar agents based on clinical equivalence, cost-effectiveness, and formulary considerations. 
  • Collaborate with the administrative team to monitor drug utilization and manage costs effectively. 
  • Utilize dose rounding protocols in collaboration with clinical staff and billing teams to improve operational efficiency and align with payer expectations. 
  • Assist with billing and documentation for medication-related services as needed. 

Clinical Research 

  • Review and interpret study protocols to ensure appropriate drug handling, dosing, administration, and patient safety. 
  • Assist Research Team with providing patient accruals to principal investigators. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of pharmacy 
  • Minimum three years of experience as an oncology pharmacist  
  • Strong clinical oncology pharmacy knowledge & experience 
  • Demonstrate interpersonal, collaborative, and critical thinking skills. 
  • Commitment to professionalism and dedicated desire to advance patient care. 
  • At least 2 years of experience in oncology pharmacy (hospital, academic, or community setting) 
  • Familiarity with chemotherapy protocols, compounding standards (USP <797>/<800>), and NCCN guidelines. 

Preferred Qualifications          

  • Completion of Pharm D 
  • Completion of a PGY 1 and PGY2 in Oncology 
  • Business experience or an MBA/MHA 
  • Board Certified in Oncology (BCOP) 
  • Prior experience in clinical research pharmacy or investigational drug services
