The APP Supervisor is key to department success because they provide administrative guidance and clinical expertise. This position analyzes staffing needs, facilitates recruitment, builds onboarding and educations services to meet the needs of the provider team, and collaborates with the Associate Director of Oncology Provider Relation and other leadership members to guide the team to growth.

 

Essential Job Functions

Leadership Functions

  • Provides day-to-day leadership and oversight to assigned teams, fostering accountability, engagement, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with employees, peers, and cross-functional teams to enhance collaboration and team cohesion.
  • Conducts regular 1:1 meetings with direct reports to support performance, address questions or concerns, and discuss goals.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and retains high-performing team members in alignment with organizational values and culture, providing performance evaluations.
  • Designs and executes team education and competency standards in collaboration with, and incorporating feedback from, the APP Shared Governance Committee.
  • Delivers timely, constructive feedback and coaching to drive high performance, accountability, and ongoing development.
  • Collaborates with the team to manage APP schedules, ensure appropriate staffing for daily operations
  • Establishes, monitors, and reports on team and individual KPIs, deploying resources to work towards objectives.
  • Fosters a positive, inclusive, and values-driven work environment that upholds the organization’s cultural pillars and principles.
  • Promotes a culture of continuous learning and development, actively seeking and supporting growth opportunities for self and team.
  • Facilitates department meetings with clear communication and measurable follow-through.

  • Regularly attends and engaged in leadership meetings and trainings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management, for which appropriate training will be provided, to support departmental objectives and organizational success.

Clinical APP Functions

  • Provide patient care via portal messages, triage calls, in office visits, telemedicine/ telephone, and medication/infusion support
  • Recommend treatment options and develops patient care plan as appropriate
  • Implement Physician orders and plans
  • Assess patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories and reviewing medical records
  • Educate and counsel patients by providing comprehensive treatment education visits and answering on-treatment questions  
  • Order diagnostic tests, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results
  • Prescribe and refills medications and oncology treatments
  • Document patient care services by charting in EMR and any pertinent department tracker
  • IP rounding (during the week/ weekends)
  • Perform in office Bone Marrow Biopsies (once trained and competent)
  • Manage chemotherapy and immune therapy related hypersensitivity reactions and toxicities
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with organizational procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Participate in supportive care programs
  • General management of primary care issues related to hematology/oncology

 

Required Qualifications

  • Board certified as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner or NCCPA
  • 5+ years of hematology/oncology practice experience
  • 5+ years of clinical experience as a PA or NP
  • 3+ years leading or supervising an APP or clinical team.
  • Current DEA license
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent technical/computer skills (Microsoft programs) and EMR experience required
  •  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oncology certification and/or palliative care experience/certification
